Visit from the Office for Quantum from DSIT

It was a pleasure to be involved in a visit from the Office for Quantum from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology on Monday at the The University of Sheffield.

The visit, organised by Ryan Sylvester of SYMCA, included a tour of the National Epitaxy Facility cleanrooms and our extensive semiconductor equipment.

The tour was given by Dr Zofia K. Bishop and Dr Edmund Clarke, who hosted colleagues from DSIT’s Office for Quantum, including Tom Newby (Head of Office for Quantum), Stephen Richardson, and Johann De Silva (Head of International Partnerships), alongside Jessica Housden (Head of Operational Strategy) representing DSIT locally, as part of the wider South Yorkshire ecosystem.

The day also included a visit to The University of Sheffield spin-out company Aegiq, and a talk by Prof Oleksandr Kyriienko, Director of the Sheffield Quantum Centre.

It was a great visit that highlighted the continued investment into the region, including our new MBE system and joint UKRI-funded activity with Aegiq, reinforcing South Yorkshire’s growing strength in semiconductor and quantum technologies.
