Online Community Consultation meetings held on 9th and 14th October 2020

The Epitaxy community input is vital in defining a service that fully supports the needs of the UK semiconductor community to conduct research at an international level of excellence.

On-line community consultation meetings, held on 9th and 14th October 2020, with the community discussed research interests, potential impact of the research, and the role and need for a National Epitaxy Facility. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the events and those who completed the questionnaire circulated beforehand. The events provided an opportunity to capture requirements for semiconductor materials and devices over the next 5-10 years and will help form our response to the call from EPSRC and our Statement of Need (SoN) submission. Closing date for the SoN is 30th November 2020.

The following useful resources helped frame the context of the discussions in considering the community’s future needs and opportunities:

UKRI’s and EPSRC’s strategic portfolio and prospective:

The government’s recent publication of an R&D strategy for the country:

The recent publication on Horizon Scanning for Photonics:

The recent report from the Royce Institute on Materials for the Energy Transition:
