UoS Engineer Your Future Events

We attended The University of Sheffield’s Global Engineering Challenge yesterday as part of the annual Engineer Your Future event.

The cross-faculty event is for 1st year Undergraduate students, and is aimed at developing students’ ability to take on real-life engineering projects. It is a great way for students to find out about Facility and potentially, in the future, consider a PhD studentship with us.

We were fortunate to borrow a demo from the LDSD group in Physics, on ‘Communicating with Light’, which is an  is an optical fibre system where students can see how to carry information with light, eavesdrop and see how photons carry information.

We are also attending the Engineering: Your Hired event next Wednesday 4th February from 1-3pm for 2nd year Undergraduates, so please come and say hello!
