About Us
The National Epitaxy Facility has been providing UK researchers with custom-designed epitaxial wafers for over 45 years, enabling them to conduct world-class research in semiconductor science, engineering and technology.
The Facility is a consortium between the Universities of Sheffield, Cambridge and University College London and is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) as part of a network of National Research Centres.
Our state-of-the-art facilities include 11 epitaxial reactors and an extensive range of semiconductor characterization tools across the 3 sites.
We specialise in the growth of III-V materials, group IV and hybrid group III-V/IV epitaxy. The structures and devices grown in the Facility are used in a range of research projects, such as quantum computing, high-speed lasers, and new sensing technologies for monitoring climate change and improving healthcare technologies.
