UK Semiconductors Conference 2023

The National Epitaxy Facility hosted the annual UK Semiconductors Conference in Sheffield on the 12th and 13th July at Sheffield Hallam University, with a record attendance to date.

We welcomed over 300 delegates and 36 exhibitors, including Lambda Photonics, Bruker, Disco Hi-Tec Europe GmbH from Germany, and DCA Instruments from Finland.

The two day event included exciting talks and plenaries, a briefing on the UK Semiconductor Infrastructure Initiative commissioned by DIST, sessions on developments in heterogeneous integration, 2D as well as system-level quantum materials in association with the Materials for Quantum Network, and the Future Photonics Hub Industry Day.

The plenary speakers, Sean Redmond, Sarah Haigh and Dave Rogers provided extended presentations on the £1b National Semiconductor Strategy, surfaces and interfaces in 2D materials, and GaO-based space electronics.

The Phil Buckle Research Communication Competition also took place, where 6 PhD students presented their research project to a lay audience. Congratulations to the winner Nicholas Martin from the University of Sheffield and runner up Yinghong Huang from the University of Manchester.
