UK National Strategy for Semiconductors
The National Epitaxy Facility welcomes the release of the UK National Strategy for Semiconductors; announced by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
This strategy has been a culmination of two years of discussion and consultation between the government and the UK semiconductor industry and academia; including input from the EPSRC National Epitaxy Facility.
Semiconductors are a critical technology for the future of the UK economy and its national resilience. We have major capabilities in the UK but also areas that need strengthening.
It is particularly pleasing to see the government recognise the important contribution UK academic research has made to this field and that the strategy includes a commitment to increase R&D support and also to address skills shortages. Creating a fully integrated innovation pipeline from R&D through to manufacturing will be a key element of success for the UK and the strategy is a major step forward.
