It is a busy few months for us at the National Epitaxy Facility, with various conferences and talks around the UK. It is a great way for us to promote the Facility and our PhD studentships that we have available, and to increase our user base. We hope to see you at some of the upcoming events!

ECOC Glasgow – 2nd-4th October

Dr Zofia Bishop, Dr Edmund Clarke and Dr Nick Bailey co-exhibited with the Future Photonics Hub at ECOC 2023 in Glasgow – the largest optical communications exhibition in Europe. The conference was a great success with over 1,400 attendees and 300 exhibitors.

University of Sheffield Careers Fair – 25th October 

We will be at the University of Sheffield’s Autumn Careers Fair at the Octagon on Wednesday 25th October from 12pm-3pm to meet prospective PhD students. We have 5 PhD studentships available so please come and see us if you want to find out more.

SPIE Photonex Glasgow – 25th-26th October 

Dr Pallavi Patil and Pippa Hopkins are co-exhibiting with the Future Photonics Hub at SPIE Photonex in Glasgow, the UK’s largest exhibition dedicated to photonics and technologies. The event is taking place on the Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th October and we will be at stand 223 so please do come and see us! To find our more visit SPIE Photonex Glasgow

UCL Engineering & Built Environment Careers Fair – 30th October

Dr Zofia Bishop and one of PhD Students, Chak L Chan, are exhibiting at the UCL Careers Fair to promote our available PhD studentships! The fair is taking place on Monday 30th October, from 4:00-7pm; last year there were over 200 students so we are expecting a good turn out and hope to see you there. To attend please click here

IET Quantum Engineering and Technology Conference – 31st October 

Our director, Prof Jon Heffernan, is giving a talk at the IET Quantum Engineering and Technology Conference on the ‘Prospects and approaches for the scale-up of quantum dot single photon source in integrated quantum photonics’. The conference offers insights and discussions into the opportunities and challenges faced from quantum engineering and technology. “Scale-up and Specifications for Photonic Quantum Technology” workshop – 30th-31st October 

Dr Elisa Sala is presenting at the “Scale-up and Specifications for Photonic Quantum Technology” workshop held at the National Physical Laboratory in London. Elisa’s presentation will be on Growth and characterization of InAs/InP QDs as efficient light emitters at the telecom C-band. The event, sponsored by M4QN and NPL, is bringing together UK-based academic and industrial researchers to discuss the challenges and opportunities around manufacturing, fabrication, integration, photonics, characterization, and more. IOP Quantum Undergraduate Day – 22nd November

Dr Nick Bailey, one of our MOVPE Research Associates, is giving a talk at the IOP Quantum Undergraduate Day on ‘How the Quantum Sausage is made: A PhD in semiconductor growth’ and will be on the 22nd November at 1:30pm. The day is an opportunity for leading young researchers to give talks on their research, PhD life, and career perspectives in industry and academia.
