Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) hosted a visit from the University of Tennessee Knoxville to the University of Sheffield on Thursday 21st November.

The delegation from The University of Tennessee Knoxville included Professor Matthew Mench (Dean of Tickle College of Engineering), Ricky McCallum (Executive Director of Partnerships & Economic Development), Josh Penney (Director of TN-MADE), Josh Phipps (Executive Director of the Institute for Advanced Materials & Manufacturing) and Adam Breeze (Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development).

The visit included a tour of the Faculty of Engineering labs, a device fabrication tour by Semiconductor Process Engineer, Dr Fasih Khan, and a tour of the National Epitaxy Facility’s cleanrooms from our Operations & Business Development Manager, Dr Zofia Bishop, and Director of Epitaxy, Dr Ian Farrer.

The University of Sheffield and the University of Tennessee Knoxville share numerous synergies, particularly in areas such as advanced manufacturing, materials science, semiconductors and quantum technology.

The visit was a great success, with the University of Tennessee Knoxville Executive Director Ricky McCallum saying they were “blown away” by their visit. The visit enabled the two Universities to further their research collaboration and identify promising areas for future cooperation.
