NEF Annual Meeting
We held our annual all staff meeting on Tuesday 28th January at the University of Sheffield, with staff from Universities of Sheffield, Cambridge and University College London in attendance, including Research Associates and PhD students
The annual all day meeting includes presentations from staff on NEF operations, marketing, health & safety and science highlights, and it is a great way to share updates from the previous year and to discuss future directions, opportunities and challenges.
We also enjoyed an annual staff meal the evening before, which also coincided with a leaving do for our Epitaxy Director, Dr Ian Farrer. We were sad to say farewell to Ian during the annual meeting, who is leaving the Facility to take up an exciting new position in Denmark, working on advanced epitaxy technologies for quantum computing based on silicon.
Ian has been a key part of the NEF since he came to Sheffield in 2015, providing his strong guidance on all aspects of epitaxy and materials characterisation. Ian was heavily involved in the installation of our dual chamber MBE cluster tool reactor and is also the lead on our Pump-Priming scheme, which provides a limited number of wafers to researchers free of charge.
He will be missed and we wish him all the best in his new adventure!
